Today was an easy day at school. In the morning we discussed Ceramic and Decorative Arts Conservation. Which I love. A part of my Museum Practice course was on conservation, and this guest lecturer used a few of the same examples. She was fascinating. She is the current person in charge of the vases that the visitor smashed at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. That was a big controversy because it is possible he didn’t just fall down the steps but fell on purpose (and could have even had a hammer in his hand at the time). Reasons being there were two points of impact on the vase, and …it seems like you have to hit a 45kg vase that has sat there for almost 50 years pretty hard to get it to smash like that. She is also certified to work on royal collections, which is really cool. In the afternoon I had an hour seminar on performance art, and was done by 2pm!
With it being a sunny and clear day, and getting out early, Elizabeth and I decided to go to the London Eye! Of course when we were on it, the clouds covered, but we were able to see all the great views. It has been at the top of my list forever, so it is nice to cross that off – and spend a great afternoon with a friend.
