This morning Elizabeth and I went up to Camden Market for lunch….what I thought would be a foodie place like I had been promised, turned out to be so different than that. Here is a description of it….
“The Camden Markets are a number of adjoining large retail markets in Camden Town near the Hampstead Road Lock of the Regent’s Canal (popularly referred to as Camden Lock), often collectively named Camden Market or Camden Lock. Among products sold on the stalls are crafts, clothing, bric-a-brac, and fast food It is the fourth-most popular visitor attraction in London, attracting approximately 100,000 people each weekend. The market is perhaps best known for its Goth ware.”
It was so crowded! and so weird and hard to figure out. The stalls were all very touristy and strange. A lot had t-shirts or normal souvenirs, others had everything from accessories for your cell phone to luggage to old CDs. Along the canal are a bunch of food stalls. They are heavy into the vegetarian foods. A lot of the stalls boasted vegan and gluten-free foods. I had a turkish wrap that was pretty great and Elizabeth had a veggie burger with avocado and hummus on it. We walked around the various stalls and saw a boat go through the lock, which was cool. I am really surprised that this is the fourth most popular visitor attraction. I am fine with the fact that I saw something new, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone coming to London for a short time. Borough’s Market and Spitalfields are a million times better.
This afternoon I met with my group for our presentation on Tuesday. It took way longer than expected, the girl with all the information was 45 minutes late! We could not do much without her. This is the second of the third…I just hope it goes well and we will have just one left. A lot of people in my group claim they can’t present because English isn’t their first language…but being in an English speaking school it is bound to happen at some point. Luckily I do not have to present this week, we’ll see what happens in another weeks time.
We finished late, and then I went to the grocery store and did some laundry to prepare for Anthony’s visit tomorrow! He arrives bright and early and I hope we can go off and do fun touristy things together. I have been saving up a list of things I want to do with him and I’m excited the time has come that we can explore London together.
I hope you had a lovely weekend!
